Summer Learning Journey

This week in Te Ngahere, our teachers talked to us about the Summer Learning Journey. Then we did some work about shells to get us inspired to start off with the summer learning journey. We watched a few videos about shells. That taught us about where shells come from, what they’re used for and who uses them.  We all made a piece of art out of shells from google. So I decided to make  my name.

The world of fractions

Hello, its me Noah from Paihia School. In Te Ngahere we have been learning about fractions. To do so we were given sheets with questions on them. Reflecting back to when we did this, I really enjoyed simplifying fractions to the lowest that they can be. For example: 4/8 = ½.
After we learned about fractions we made a D.L.O to display what we have learned. Next time I could do better with understanding the way fractions work. I believe that I did well with fixing improper fractions.

Want Relief

Hello, its me Noah from Paihia School. In Te Ngahere we were learning about ships from the back in the 17th century. Along with a crew who got stuck on Auckland Island. One thing that threw me was that Auckland Island is Nowhere near Auckland. The island is actually 465 kms south of bluff! In the text about the crew, there was a little girl called Nellie. She almost let the fire go out which is not good because they didn’t have any more matches. Also the island is very cold. I wrote a diary for a man named Mr Hawkings. This man was on the island at that time. Here’s what i think he would think.

PHONE POSTER

Hello I’m Noah from Paihia School. In Te Ngahere, we have been doing a reading task about the use of phones. I think that phones are very useful, but you need to be online for a monitored amount of time.

Because if you are not doing so. You will stay online for hours on end. We have a create activity. It was to make Either a poster,  a flyer or a video to do with the topic we are learning about. I made a poster That promoted using your phone less. Do you think that you need a time limit for your device?

Musical plastic

In Te Ngahere, Paihia School we made some music. We learned about music notes and takadimi. The quarter note sounds like ta. The eighth note sounds twice as fast as a quarter note. We used our bodies and other items that you can use to make a rhythm. Our group used a plastic bottle, plastic bags, a piece of plastic and a ruler. I am the child in the skateboard shirt playing the plastic bags.

A few days later we watched some of the music videos in assembly. Our video was there.

Here is my group’s music video.

film making

n Te Ngahere, Paihia School we made some movies about whatever we chose. We made a movie about cops and robbers. The title of our movie was The Not So Great Escape. In my group there was: Stephen, Hunter, Michael, Linton and I. Our group did well at bringing all our props. Next time we could do better with making our backgrounds and costumes fit the script. Because If you’re pretending your in a police station. You don’t want to look like your in a classroom. I found it difficult to not laugh in the middle of a line.  My favourite part of the movie was probably when I got to eat watermelon. Now that was good!!! The longest we could make our films was 3 minutes. But if you ask me I would have wanted to make it 4-5 minutes. The best movies went to the Cathay cinema in Kerikeri our movie didn’t make it but I think our movie was great .  Here is our movie.

Silk art

What did you learn? Today we learned how to use Silk to make the Olympic rings and patterns.

What was fun? I found it really fun experimenting with this app to make backgrounds, my name and the rings.

What challenges were there? The only challenge for me was shaping the letters in my name and making the rings circles.

Where might this tool be useful? This tool might be useful if you are writing something in fire for a presentation cover.

How did the presenters help you learn? The presenters helped us learn how to grasp the knowledge of using this app.

If you were running this toolkit what would you change? I might change it so that you can make proper circles.

What did you learn? Today I learned how to make a mystery picture in google sheets.

What was fun? It was fun when we made our own math questions to reveal the picture.

What challenges were there? The really challenging part was when I tried to change the image I couldn’t do it.

Where might this tool be useful? It might be useful if your making a quiz on what you have learnt.

How did the presenters help you learn? They helped us learn how to make the game and understand google sheets better.

If you were running this toolkit what would you change? I might change it so that you can change the image easier.
